Malta packs in plenty, despite its modest size and population

Take one glance at the statistics for the Republic of Malta – particularly its 316 square kilometre (122 square mile) proportions and population of about 475,000 – and you might be forgiven for thinking this island country would have little to offer to those seeking aviation recruiting placements.

Malta, though, has always had the capacity to surprise. Furthermore, with our team here at TARCG continually sourcing new vacancies based in the former British colony, the time may have come for you to contemplate the many merits of this culturally varied and historic area of Southern Europe.

So much more on offer than Mediterranean sunshine

Given its situation in the Mediterranean sea some 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Italy, you probably won’t be taken aback to learn of Malta’s highly tourist-friendly climate, comprising hot summers and mild winters. There are certainly many beautiful beaches at which to get thoroughly sun-kissed, too, although Malta also stands for so much more than this.

A place of habitation since around 5900 BC, Malta has been ruled by various major powers over its history, from the Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans to the Arabs, Normans, French and British. This myriad of influences has lent the present-day island a highly cosmopolitan feel, as apparent across its music, literature, art, cuisine and other traditions.

A destination blending the best of the old and new

Malta is an especially alluring destination for history buffs, with the UNESCO-listed capital and European Capital of Culture for 2018, Valletta, noted for its highly elegant, Baroque character, incorporating all manner of fascinating fortifications, museums and churches.

However, it would also be wrong to suggest that Malta is a mere open-air museum, given such lively parts of the island as St Julian’s and Sliema that are helping to affirm its emerging reputation as an upmarket European nightlife capital.
