- Role: Senior Machinist
Location: Stevenage

Length of Contract: 12 months (possible extension)
Hours per Week: 37 hours per week
Job Summary:
- Provide machining expertise across all internal manufacturing departments to assist in the design/engineering process.
- Deputising for the lead technician in the department including having authority to provide day to day supervision to the machine shop team.
- Acting as the primary interface to provide workload deadlines for finished articles.
- Ensuring that all machines/tools are calibrated appropriately.
- Control of machine maintenance including operator performed tasks and ensuring adequate provision of external service controls where appropriate.
Competency in using the following machine types:
- Lathe – Horizontal & vertical
- CNC Lathe
- Mill
- CNC Mill
- Spark Eroder
- Bar Saw
- Band Saw
- Pillar Drill
- Guillotine
- Surface Grinder
- Cylindrical Grinder
- Off-hand Grinder
Experience of the following machine controls is ideal:
- Heidenhain
- Acurite
- Philips
- Siemens
Reporting To:
- Reporting to the Team Leader - Panels & Structures Area.
- Day-to-day task allocation may come from the request system and/or Team Leader.
Internal Relationships:
- Interface with Engineering, Design and Production departments as required.
- Provide inputs to improvement initiatives.
- Liaise directly with Manufacturing, Engineering and Design within area of expertise/knowledge.
Job Profile:
- To work from drawing/design/engineer instructions and drawings to produce the required article. To complete and record information within the required paperwork.
- To work in accordance with LDS (local document system) describing methods and procedures. Promote machine shop regulations, local area Health and Safety requirements and 5S policy within local work areas
- To regularly demonstrate skills, or specialist knowledge/experience thus mentor colleagues in this area to ensure the high quality of finished goods.
- To deputise for the Lead Technician and/or coordinate work load with the other machinists.
- To demonstrate the desire, commitment and team working ethic to complete tasks in the correct quality and lead time.
- To provide information, opinion, suggestions and knowledge of machining internally and externally to operations as required.
- To work directly with engineers, designers and customers as need dictates.
- Liaise with the other machinist(s) and production support to address manufacturing anomalies and be proactive in 5s disciplines and continuous improvement activities.
Skills/Experience Required:
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience of assembly, manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience of working within a machine shop environment and of being part of a team.

Education & Training:
Essential:
- Minimum of ONC / NVQ 3 level in a Manufacturing/Production discipline
- A recognised technician level apprenticeship
Working Pattern:
- Monday to Friday days - ad hoc opportunity for working extra hours mid-week & weekends
Extension:
- Probable extension after initial contract duration
Base of Work:
- This role will be working on site full time - free parking is provided
