- Role: Spacecraft System Engineer - Requirements and VerificationRate of Pay: Please apply for further detailsLocation: Stevenage - Following a familiarisation period on site this role will involve hybrid working averaging three days a week on-site - but candidates must be able to work on-site full time on an ad hoc basis when required – free parking is providedWorking Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday, daysLength of Contract: 6 months - Probable extension after initial contract durationTravel: Occasional travel to other UK sitesJob Summary:The key element of this role is to use engineering skill and experience for the assessment and improvement of requirements quality, fitness for purpose, and verifiability for spacecraft systems – for spacecraft like the Rosalind Franklin Mars Lander and the Lunar Rover concepts.Supporting the detailed co-ordination and implementation, in the IBM DOORS software tool, of the following:• decomposition of system requirements towards the next level in line with the specification tree overview established by the Requirements & Verification Lead of the project(s)• establishment and maintenance of traceability and rationale• preparation of verification and requirement close-out planning• change impact analysis and running requirements change control process• detecting inconsistencies, out of date data, data gaps, and acting to correct themThe work shall be done according to processes based on the well-known ECSS standards for space industry.The work will be done under supervision and co-ordination of the Requirements and Verification Lead of the project(s) at stake (foreseen as ESA Exploration projects) – process familiarisation/training will be by on-the-job training.We are seeking a candidate experienced in similar activities using DOORS software in a complex engineering system development background, ideally in space engineering and ideally familiar with the relevant ECSS standards and model philosophies towards qualification and acceptance. Experience with the processes for System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review is especially relevant.The candidate will be expected to liaise with the full range of engineering disciplines and other stakeholders e.g. procurement and configuration control departments, to ensure completeness, correctness, and consistency of the whole requirements database, for the production of specifications and verification planning/control documentation.The role requires demonstrated excellent technical understanding and communication, documentation and presentational skills, as well as thorough diligence and attention to detail. The production of tracking data and metrics from the DOORS database for internal reporting to the Requirements & Verification Lead is part of the role.Reporting To: Requirements and Verification LeadInternal Relationships: Engineering, Configuration Control & Procurement teamsExternal Relationships: Occasional interaction with Industry and Agency customer representatives may be required.
Skills/Experience Required:Essential:- Strong experience in similar activities using IBM DOORS software in a complex engineering system development background, ideally in space engineering.
- Good understanding of the relevant ECSS standards and model philosophies towards qualification and acceptance. Experience of System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review is especially relevant.
- Demonstrable experience in building good communication relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups
- Computer literacy (MS office / Google suite) and intranet/internet based applications.
Desirable:- Windchill experience is an advantage.
- Experience and understanding of UK export control regulations is also an advantage.
Education & Training:- A STEM degree or similar – or strong experience in a similar role
