- Role: Avionics Design EngineerRate of Pay: Please apply for further detailsLocation: Farnborough - This role will be a hybrid role working from home and on site – Free parking is provided for this roleWorking Pattern: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, daysLength of Contract: 12-monthsTravel: Occasional travel to other UK and overseas sitesJob Summary:A vacancy for a Avionics Design Engineer has arisen within the Zephyr team in Farnborough. The successful applicant will join the Zephyr Engineering Team.This position is focused on the development of Zephyr Avionics subsystems to maximise the potential of persistent flight operations in the stratosphere.Reporting To:The successful candidate will report into the Lead Avionics Engineer.Job Profile:Working with the Lead Avionics Engineer you will be responsible for:o Engaging with stakeholders to specify requirements for safety critical Avionics subsystemso Executing full lifecycle analogue and digital circuit design for harsh thermal and radiation environmentso Electronic component selection in accordance with requirementso Qualification and traceability against requirementso Coordinating unit testing of Avionics systemso Managing non-conformances throughout the design lifecycleo Capturing lessons learnt and identifying improvements to designs and processeso Tracking design changes through a formal CCB processo Manage Avionics design work packages to a strict budget (on time, on cost, on quality)o Review the work of junior engineers and provide mentoring
Accountabilities:● Accountable to the Zephyr Lead Avionics Engineer
Experience & Qualifications:The successful candidate’s experience and skills will include the following:● BSc / HNC / BEng and / or recognised aerospace based apprenticeship In electrical and electronic engineering or equivalent experience● Full-lifecycle analogue and digital circuit design, for harsh thermal and radiation environments● Use of Microsemi FPGA design tools and FPGA based Signal processing including complex modulation/demodulation● Electronic component selection in accordance with requirements.● Experience of UAS airworthiness or Space system quality standards (DO-254, ECSS or similar).● Experience of electronic and RF test equipment, setup and use.● Knowledge of communication theory and methods.● Capability and experience in some (or all of the following) is desirableo Multi-layer mixed signal PCB layout using CAE. (ALTIUM and ORCAD preferred)o PCB manufacture and test methodology.o Environmental testing for High Altitude/Space.o Embedded software development (8051 or similar)o Experience of requirements capture and management● Ability to deliver to defined timescales, requirements and budgets.● Capability to take a unit design from requirements through detailed design and system trade-offs to prototyping and batch production, testing and system integration.● ESA ECSS high reliability soldering.● Experience of UAS or Space system level design and documentation.
Education & Training:You should hold a BSc / HNC / BEng and / or recognised aerospace based apprenticeship in electrical and electronic engineering or equivalent work experience

Extension:Probable extension after initial contract duration
