Role Overview:We now have a new vacancy for a Rig Design & Stress Engineer reporting to join the Structures Test Team based in the Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre (AIRTeC) at Airbus. This role is based onsite in Filton, Bristol.The Structures Test Centre UK is part of the Material Processes and Test domain of Airbus. The Structures Test Centre UK is one of three Airbus centres that perform or manage the full pyramid of static and fatigue structures tests on all Airbus Aircraft Programmes and R&T including exciting new projects on hybrid testing and Zero Emissions aircraft.The team is responsible for testing the structural technologies for the Wing of Tomorrow programme, Zero Emissions aircraft and for support of all current aircraft programmes.Responsibilities:• Test Rig Concepts designed on time, cost & quality• Prepare a pre-design (3D study) for specification release• Integrate electrical, measurement and data system installation requirements• Provide detailed designs and data transfer for manufacturing• Ensure a configuration management of drawings and 3D data• Provide specimen interface drawings• Ensure test means interfaces are compliant with specimen loading areas• Support acceptance of test means after manufacturing• Provide expertise during the assembly of the test means in the laboratory• Coordinate all internal and external contributors/stakeholders/suppliers• Anticipate, identify and manage risks & opportunities• Participate in the Test Centre and weekly team meetings
Skill Set:Essential:• Design of aeronautical structures or equivalent high precision structural engineering projects (e.g. civil, marine, test rigs)• 3D Design of complex engineering structures (CATIA V5 and/or 3DXperience)• Stress calculation and checking (hand calculations and/or FEM sizing tool)
Desirable:• Materials testing• Experience in managing suppliers or participating in supplier selection• Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (e.g. Aerospace, Structures, Materials, Physics)
